Almost There...Again

7/30/13

This is my third Tuesday in a row flying. I'm on a roll. I had the airplane all ready by the time chip got there. He jumped in and we were off. We went to the practice area and i performed some clearing turns to make sure the area was free of any other aircraft.

I did one steep turn just to make sure things were the way they were supposed to be and I held altitude the whole time so I was satisfied. Then we reviewed emergency procedures. I did better than before but was still missing some key elements, like tuning to 121.5, the emergency frequency. Next time, I'm going to reach right for the checklist and follow along!

I managed to find my way back to the airport, something that's still a little hard for me. After a couple normal landings, Chip introduced something fairly new to me: a no flap landing. This is a landing that simulates a dead flap motor. Flaps are devices on the airplane used in landings and some takeoff. They provide lift and steepen the angle of descent without increasing airspeed. I came in very fast and bounced a bit.

We also practiced a power-off landing. I did this with Craig quite a few times so I wasn't too bad at it.

After one more normal landing we taxiied back to the hangar. Chip says that hopefully next lesson, after review, I can fly solo again! I'm super excited!
