Review Flight
01/12/13
Today's flight was interesting. It started out with a preflight issue. I admit I was rushing and not lookng for a problem. Without my knowledge, Craig hid a bottle cap in the air intake. I didn't catch it. After that, my confidence level kind of went down a little and I was embarrassed. I'm far enough into my training where I shouldn't be making those stupid mistakes.
We took off and headed to the practice area. I was about perfrom maneuvers that I hadn't done in a while. Nervousness filled me. I had already embarrassed myself once today. We began with slow flight. I had a hard time keeping altitude. Then both types of stalls. I was happy with my stalls but then I had to do them while turning. I kept wanting to level the wings too early. If I was in a real stall approaching or leaving an airport, that would be a safety hazard. Then we went into doing ground reference maneuvers. I was happy with these becasue I had been doing these lately. Turbulence made it a litle more challenging though.
As we approached the airport, there was a bunch of transmissions on the tower frequency. On downwind, I noticed a full ramp. Personally, I've never seen the ramp full except during fly-ins. We landed once with much success. I was proud of my landing. On the downwind on the next time, we had to perform three 360's to allow time for other planes to land. I had no idea it would be that busy. I guess that's what you get when you have 60 degree weather in mid-January. I'm glad to see it that packed. It makes me excited for summer flying!
Here's a touch-and-go video from my lesson:
